FAQ
What is the difference between a physical therapy clinic and a rehabilitation clinic?
A rehabilitation clinic is staffed by rehabilitation physicians who can provide diagnoses and prescriptions; a physical therapy clinic offers treatment by physical therapists, and some services require a physician's diagnosis or referral as per regulations. Please contact each clinic directly for the actual scope of services. This site only compiles public information.
What are common rehabilitation needs for seniors?
Common needs include post-stroke rehabilitation, post-fracture recovery, degenerative joint conditions, sarcopenia, balance and gait training, etc. Suitability and treatment plans should be evaluated by a physician or physical therapist. This site only compiles public information and is not medical advice.
Do you have to see a doctor first and obtain a referral to visit a physiotherapy clinic? Can you use National Health Insurance?
Under Article 12 of Taiwan's Physical Therapists Act, a physical therapist shall practice based on a diagnosis, consultation, or medical order issued by a physician, except where the purpose is not the treatment of disease. To use Taiwan's National Health Insurance, under Article 27 of the Regulations Governing the Contracting and Management of National Health Insurance Medical Care Institutions, the service must be provided by a physical therapy clinic contracted with National Health Insurance and in accordance with a prescription issued by a specialist in rehabilitation medicine, neurology, orthopedics, neurosurgery, plastic surgery, or internal medicine at a contracted hospital or clinic; National Health Insurance does not cover treatment courses that do not meet these conditions. This site has not verified individually whether each institution is contracted with National Health Insurance or its fee structure; please confirm directly with the institution, or confirm on the National Health Insurance Administration website under Institution Search (Source: National Laws and Regulations Database).
