Under Article 12 of Taiwan's Physical Therapists Act, a physical therapist shall practice based on a diagnosis, consultation, or medical order issued by a physician, except where the purpose is not the treatment of disease. To use Taiwan's National Health Insurance, under Article 27 of the Regulations Governing the Contracting and Management of National Health Insurance Medical Care Institutions, the service must be provided by a physical therapy clinic contracted with National Health Insurance and in accordance with a prescription issued by a specialist in rehabilitation medicine, neurology, orthopedics, neurosurgery, plastic surgery, or internal medicine at a contracted hospital or clinic; National Health Insurance does not cover treatment courses that do not meet these conditions.
